Here are some frequently asked questions from our valued customers such as yourself:
I am often asked "What do I need to get started to play the violin?".
- You will need a teacher to help guide you in your musical adventure.
- You also will need the proper instrument.
- You can either buy or rent an instrument.
- We can fit the instrument to the player, an improperly fitted instrument is stressful to play and may even cause injury.
- Good quality instrument will be well made and will enhance the learning experience.
- Our shop specializes in the final adjustments that are only available in a violin specialty shop.
- You also will need a good bow and rosin.
- A good bow is like a good violin, it is an equally important part in the players quest to make music.
- Rosin is made from tree sap that has been specially processed. The rosin is applied to the hair of the bow to increase friction to make the string vibrate, producing the beautiful sound of a bowed instrument.
- You also will need a good case to protect the instrument from accidents and environmental hazards.
These are the minimum.
- Here are some accessories to aid in the functioning of your instrument.
- Depending on the teacher we
offer several kinds of shoulder rests to fit you individually.
- A good sturdy music stand is always helpful for good posture (also saves on chiropractic bills ).
- We also have several kinds of music stand lights available for low light environments.
- We also offer a variety of mutes.
- Mutes for orchestra or group settings.
- Mutes for "do not disturb" setting such as apartments.
- If you already know the curriculum your teacher uses, we carry or can order all your sheet music needs.
- Extra strings is always a good idea ("don't be the one left out of the group from a broken string").
- Another accessory you can use is a humidifier to guard your instrument from the dry weather.
- Some teacher have recommended for their students these two items. Check with your teacher if this is an item you will need.
- "Bow right" is a frame that is placed on your instrument to aid in bowing straight.
- "Don't Fret" is a sticker that is stuck to the finger board for finger placement.
That is about it. now remember you could always upgrade your instrument, or use 6 months rent to purchase a "new" instrument. see some of our special instruments.
